About Safestall
Safestall is a free, non-commercial iOS app that helps you find safe, gender-neutral restrooms nearby. It's a passion project — there is no business model, no ads, and no monetization.
Location data
Safestall uses your device's location to show restrooms near you. Your location is used in real time to make queries and is never stored, logged, or transmitted to any server we control. We don't have a backend — the app talks directly to third-party data sources.
When querying third-party APIs, we use reduced-precision coordinates (rounded to approximately 100 meters) where the API supports it, so even those services don't receive your exact location.
No accounts
Safestall does not require or offer user accounts. There is no sign-up, no login, and no profile.
No analytics or tracking
We do not use any third-party analytics SDKs — no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Segment, nothing. We do not use ad networks or attribution SDKs. We do not use crash reporting SDKs that collect device identifiers.
Apple's built-in App Analytics (which is anonymous, privacy-preserving, and off by default per your device settings) is the only analytics mechanism available. We have no access to individual-level data through it.
Third-party data sources
Safestall fetches restroom data from the following sources:
- Refuge Restrooms — a community-maintained open dataset of gender-neutral restrooms
- OpenStreetMap — open geographic data
- Apple Places — used to enrich listings with business names and hours
These services receive API requests that include approximate location data to return nearby results. Each service has its own privacy policy. No personal information beyond approximate location is sent in these requests.
On-device data
Safestall may store a small amount of data locally on your device (such as your preferences) using standard iOS storage. This data never leaves your device.
Children's privacy
Safestall does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app requires only location permission to function and stores nothing about its users.
Your rights
Because we don't collect personal data, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, or delete. If you have questions, you're welcome to reach out.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
